Ha--fair point; I had just rec'd it and all I could conclude was she defn has a good voice, period (as opposed to those described above folks were debating).
It came about via a discussion on Zulu folk music (I had no idea about the origin of the Token's hit).

The NY Times told me to subscribe in order to read the story. In any case, in the mid-90's I saw the Tokens play at a local County Fair

Tokens were right up there with Pat Boone when it came to cultural appropriation.
